Amnesty International Canada, the Canadian Council for Refugees and the Refugee Lawyers’ Association of Ontario today expressed deep concern at the government's refusal to refer Bill C-11 to committee before second reading, and its reported plan to fast-track it to a vote.

CCR ELECTS NEW PRESIDENT AT SUCCESSFUL FALL CONSULTATION

The Canadian Council for Refugees announced today that Wanda Yamamoto was elected President at its Annual General Meeting on 5 December.  Ms Yamamoto works at Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council in Winnipeg.

Disturbing upsurge in rejections of Eritrean refugees in Cairo by Canada

The Canadian Council for Refugees today expressed its concern about a recent pattern of refusals of Eritrean refugees applying in Cairo for resettlement to Canada.  Applications for judicial review in ten such cases were filed with the Federal Court last Friday 27 November.

The Canadian Council for Refugees published today a report, Nairobi: Protection Delayed, Protection denied, highlighting the extraordinarily long processing times at the Nairobi visa office.  The report focuses on cases of refugee family reunification and privately sponsored refugees.
